Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ:

Greetings to you all in the name of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

I would like to take this opportunity to inform you about the Sunrise School, which was started in 2008. The school began with the main goal to provide education for underprivileged, orphans, and single-parent children who are from our church family. The school allows us to reach children and their families with spiritual education as well.

In the year 2008, we discovered a family from our congregation (West Church of Christ) was not able to afford school fees due to their poverty. Because there are many families in our community in this situation, we decided to start school.

I discussed this issue with Sis. Karen Clayton, Bro. Ron Clayton, and Bro. Kyle Clayton and shared my proposal of starting a school for the poor in the community. When I shared my hopes, the Clayton family was very excited to help me start the school. They gave financial help and encouragement to make the school operational.

Sis. Karen suggested the name “Sunrise” for the school, and we registered the school with the government of India.

The Claytons understood the needs of the students, but due to their poverty, they were not able to pay large amounts to attend school. Therefore, the Claytons helped fund the school, provided salaries for teachers, and even helped purchase a facility to be used for the school and the worship and work of the local church.

Since its beginning, Sunrise School has been contributing a lot to the community and to the local church here by providing education to many children. Currently, the Sunrise School has over 100 students who cannot afford to study, even in a government school that is supposed to be free education.

A Difficult Time for Sunrise School:

After the death of Bro. Ron, the funding of Sunrise School was eventually dropped. We have been struggling to maintain the operations of the school. Since we do not demand school fees from most of our students, it has been very hard for us to keep the school running. Approximately 25% of our students receive free education. Those who can afford fees pay occasionally up to Rs. 1,000 ($12) per month.

Bro. Kyle Clayton has encouraged us to continue to run the school. He started his own organization, “India2.0”, and is helping occasionally with funds for the school to meet its needs. Currently the school is functioning under the encouragement of Bro. Kyle. We thank him and the contributors for their generosity to help keep doors open for the school.

Success Stories of Sunrise School

I want to present some of the stories of students who received their education from Sunrise School.

Success Story 1: Sunshine- Studying Medicine

Sunshine’s family is very poor. Her father is a daily wage earner. Sunshine is a very quiet and brilliant student. She attended Sunday school at the West Church of Christ. Today, she is pursuing a degree in medicine. Soon she hopefully will become a doctor.

From Sunshine

“My warmest greetings to you all in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. This is Sunshine, pursuing MBBS (medicine) 2nd year, and I hope to be a doctor soon. I would like to take this opportunity to thank you all who have helped me to achieve my dream through Sunrise School. I am from a financially poor family, but the Sunrise School helped me by giving me my school education from kindergarten to 10th grade. I have learnt many things from school life, not only education; I have learnt so many spiritual lessons.

At school, our day starts with prayer and reading Bible verses. I want to give special thanks to My Ma’am (Kiran); she was my personal guide in everything and in personal life as well. She used to guide me in every problem, and she led me spiritually. Even Uncle Yesupadam would guide me and pray for me. I like to thank this entire family and want to thank Sunrise School, Sis. Karen Clayton, Bro. Ron Clayton, and Bro. Kyle Clayton, and American brothers who helped us through Sunrise School. Our Sunrise School has provided good free education to many who had no other hope. Thank you, Sunrise School.”

Success Story 2: Moses – Selected as Indian Police

Moses was from a very poor and needy Christian family. When he was in third grade, his parents stopped sending him to school due to their family’s financial condition, but the Sunrise School opened their doors, took him, and gave free education to him. He has completed school and college education. Now, he has accomplished his dream of working in the police department.

From Moses

“I got my education at Sunrise School. I pray and thank the Clayton family and USA brothers who helped me get my education through Sunrise School.”

Success Story 3: Ramya – Working as Techie

V. Ramya is a single-parent child. She was from Hindu background family. She Joined the school in the year 2008. Later on, she started visiting our Local church. Eventually, Ramya and her mother accepted Christ as their Savior and now they are part of our church family. Once Ramya suffered with poverty and she received education from Sunrise School. Today, she is working in an MNC company as a techie.

From Ramya

“Thank you Sunrise School and USA brethren, Bro. Ron Clayton, Sis. Karen Clayton, and Kiran Ma’am for helping my school education. Because of your educational help, today I’m in this position. I’m so grateful for working at HCL as a software engineer now."

- Thanks from Parents

Current Stories of Sunrise School

As I said before, the school started with the main goal of providing education for the poor, underprivileged, orphans, and single-parent children. I want to present some of the stories of current students who are receiving their education from Sunrise School.

Please keep the school in your prayers that many doctors, engineers, and preachers should come out of this school.

Pallavi and Yeswan

“Pallavi and Yeswanth are the children of Sis. Renuka. Their father passed away a few years back. Sis. Renuka also had one more child who is physically handicapped. She had some terminal diseases too. As a single parent, in these situations it became tough for her to raise three children. When we came to know about her physical and mental conditions and burdens she is bearing as a sick patient and a widow, we took her two children into the Sunrise school to give free education. Pallavi is now studying in 8th grade and Yeshwanth is in 9th grade. "

Prabhas and Lasya

"Prabhas and Lasya are the kids of Sis. Radha, a widow. We took the responsibility of her kids and are giving them free education through the Sunrise School. Thus the school is helping her to educate her children. Prabhas is studying in 8th grade, Lasya is in 6th."
